I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this but here goes.

I have IE 6, Outlook 6 and running WinXP. I get an "There was an error opening this message" whenever I try to send a message. I have checked and double checked the POP and SMTP settings. I can send and receive messages on my other system through OE with the same account but on on this machine. I have recreated the Windows profile, so I know it's not that. I totally uninstalled Express and IE. Took out everything in the registry about Express. Reinstalled WinXP over the top and still get the error.

Can anyone let me know what could be happening short of reformatting and starting over.

Thanks in advance,
Debbie

Actually, IE and OE can not be uninstalled from XP. In any event, my first suspicion would be a corrupt outbox or inbox. In OE, create a new mail folder and move your existing inbox mail to that. Then close OE and search for *.dbx - you'll need to include hidden and system files in your search. You should find them in a folder like:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{bunch_of_numbers&letters}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

When you find these, delete outbox.dbx and inbox.dbx
Restart OE and new ones will be created. See if that cures the problem.

Thanks for your reply and I will definally keep this in mind.

I did find out that it was my McAfee that was corrupted. I compaired the McAfee setup with my other system that was OK and that still did not work, so I uninstalled/reinstalled McAfee and that worked.

Thanks again,
Debbie

Interesting, thanks for letting everyone know the solution - it may help someone in the future.
