I am attempting to copy a database from my test notebook to a production server. This is the first time I have attempted to do this with a copy database wizard.

I am getting the following error message:
Your SQL Server Service is running under the local system account. You need to change your SQL Server service account to have the rights to copy files over the network.

When selecting the source and destination, I used windows authentication, when that didn't work I tried using the SA software. I also tried doing this from the source notebook and from a computer that neither of the databases resided (the technical term for this would be "grasping for straws").

I am very new to this, and I am not sure what this is telling me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
DMM

This means that the SQL Server on your laptop is not running under a domain account. It is instead running under the local system account. To change this, in Enterprise Manager, right click on the server name. Click the security tab, at the bottom select This Account and enter the username and password of the account you wish to use.

It is recommend that you create a new account on the domain called SQLServer or SQLService or something to this effect for the SQL Server to run as. You don't want to use your account because when you change your password the SQL Server won't be able to start.

Denny,

I appreciate the quick response. Will try this as soon as I can get a chance.

Thanks again.
