Is there a way to get the existing pri keys out of a mics. I want to be able to have them handy incase upgrade to rel 7 goes bad as in previouse posts, just in case I have to do a fresh install with a new NVRAM

If you don’t have them written down, the only method I am aware of is to call Nortel with the system ID and particulars.

Thank you NTL555 I can do that, but if I back up 5.0 how do I restore to 7.0 (dont think it's possible).

You must use new Norstar upgrade kit when upgrading to 7.0 from any release prior to Norstar 6.1 otherwise you will lose your programming!

This is true, but at least you will still have a backup of your programming if the upgrade fails to 7.0.

FYI, do not forget to check to see if all your voicemails/acd/fastrad, etc. are up to date. These will have to be upgraded prior to the system upgrade.

Thank you aragon & WIL555 for your suggestions. I can always download the system onto a excell spreadsheet, and if I loose the programming during the upgrade that doesnt scare me. However what I am trying to avoid is loosing the PRI enabler key.

I don't know if anyone has tried this yet (I think I might try it when I get the time), but couldn't you download the system programming onto the workbook and then get the current installed keycodes from there? There is a spot for them on the workbook, has anybody tried this yet?

Just to let you all know, I did give my own thought a try and it DID NOT work, in the workbook I only got the system ID and no keycodes.

Thank you all. Unfortunately there are usually no notes if the system was installed by another vendor. On our installs we always leave a folder with all system info including any key codes and system back-ups at the customers site. We feel that the customer is entitled to have full system documentation as an integral part of our install.

If you backup system and select backup system ID option NRU then you can restore to previous version and restore system ID and keycodes. Norstars have been known to change their system ID after a startup making the old PRI enabler useless. You must backup your sys ID in NRU.

I should also mention that if system fails to upgrade to 7.0 and will not stop blinking that if you remove the power during the process and put in the old feature card then you will force a startup and then you can restore old version backup to old software version.
Do not attempt to upgrade to 7.0 without first upgrading to 6.1 SW. Nortel now sells a 7.0 upgrade kit.

A simple place to keep the key codes is to write them down with permanant ink on the door of the ksu or voice mail saying what each one was used for. Notes seem to disappear.
