POTS Lines.. Norstar...

Hi-

I am thinking about purchasing a Nortel PBX system (Yes, I know that they are somewhat outdated... it's just for experiementing...) Anyways... The line that I have is a POTS line... Can I use this with my Nortel System or do I need another type of outside trunk (for incoming and outgoing calls)

POTS = plain old telephone service.

You haven't stated what type of Norstar system it is?.

Some Norstar systems only had ISDN cards fitted, but the older ones had either 6 ports for the compact 6+16 model or perhaps 4 port cards that fitted in e.g. 0+32 Modular or later compact versions. I'm using UK standards as it's usually referred as CICS or MICS elsewhere.

Not sure if I've missed anything out?.

Yes, you can use regular analog lines with the use of an analog trunk card, with or without caller ID capabilities. Each trunk card allows up to 4 analog lines to be connected to the Norstar control unit.

or you can find yourself a nice 3X8 DR5 it has caller ID
