Hi,

would anybody know how to release a portable drive letter that become permanent?

An Olympus digital camera always mapped itself with the letter
E.

Now, E happens to be mapped permanently everytime the computer is rebooted, and so the camera can't use the letter. It wants to use the next available letter which is F, but F is mapped as a user drive.

Would somebody advise me how to fix it? How do I remove the "ghost" logical drive?

Hello,

One way to to do this is: Login with a username that has administrative access, right-click My Computer and select manage from the context menu. Go to drive management in the left-hand pane, right-click on E: in the lower half of the right pane, select Change Drive Letters and Paths. In that dialog box you can change or remove what Windows is remembering about that drive.
