I am having difficulty configuring my Soundstation2 to work with my Nortel system. According to Polycom I need to configure the phone as a m2616 which I have done. Now its stuck on initializing. I do not have a 2616 to hook up to it to ensure my configurations are working correctly, however I do have a 3903 hooked up to the interface module and it gets a dial tone.

Can you post a print out of your set programming?

There are 4 dip switches on that Polycom, check those. Does the display say Initializing?

Dip switches? Are you referring to the ones on the back of the interface module? Currently the display says ready however it does not give a dial tone. The 3902 also has no dial tone as long as the power for the Polycom is plugged up. When the Polycom is unplugged the 3903 works as a 2616.

On the SS2 Nortel Meridian direct connect there is a RJ45 to RJ45 cable that connects from the network/pbx port to the port on the unimod This cable has a blue band at one end and is the end that connects to the network. If the cable is incorrectly orientated, with the blue band end connected to the unimod, the phone will get no dial tone and fail to initialize.

What is the full model # of the Polycom? Should start with 2201

Some of the 3900 series phones are not polarity sensitive. It very well could be the polarity is reversed causing the Polycom not to work.

Possibly, try reversing the polarity at the jack or at the cross connect and see if it works.

The line in needs to be an analog line, not a digital line.

There are two type of Polycomm Soundstation conference phones. The most common one is the analogue version that applies to most phone systems with analogue extension ports. There was a second "digital" Polycomm soundstation that was configured as a M2616 as stated in the original thread.

You need to be certain what version you have. If you do have the digital version, then you won't be able to "IDU" it if it's working.

All the best

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

I tried to reverse the polarity but it did not solve the problem. I considered that it possibly could be a bad Polycom phone however my boss has already sent it back twice and Polycom has stated there is no issues with it.

I vaguely remember having difficulties with one of these years ago and that the TN programming was very specific.
Try changing key 3 to AO6 instead of AO3.

I don't know if this is useful or not however, on the transfer module. When the power cable is not plugged in. The 3903 works and gets a dial tone. Once I plug in the power cable, neither the Polycom or the 3903 get a dial tone. Furthermore the operations on the 3903 start acting funny. Could it be a bad transfer module or does that point to a different problem? Also is there anyway to test if the transfer module or the phone is bad?

The TN is enabled, and I changed it to AO6 instead of AO3. If you don't mind me asking what is the difference in AO3 & AO6?
