Hi,
Backup is reporting 'incomplete because it cannot backup (open) 3 particular files. They are,
W3404
Unable to open file. (FILE=C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\
Network\Downloader\qmgr0.dat, EC=SHARING VIOLATION)
W3404
Unable to open file. (FILE=C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\
Network\Downloader\qmgr1.dat, EC=SHARING VIOLATION)
W3404
Unable to open file. (FILE=C:\WINDOWS\system32\dhcp\dhcp.mdb, EC=SHARING VIOLATION)

qmgr0.dat and qmgr1.dat seem to be a wide common problem with backing up. I've read about excluding these from backup, but surely this cant be the best thing to do, because what happens when server goes bang!? You can restore but missing two/three files?? hmm. :)

Any one got ideas on best way to tackle this?

Cheers

Open files are locked by the OS so either exclude from backup or get the open files agent which will allow backup of those files.

the qmgr0 and qmgr1.dat are related to the BITS service which is what windows update uses to download patches in the background - these can be ignored.

dhcp.mdb is the dhcp database - a lot of people make a fuss over backing this up, but to be honest it can usually be recreated very easily as long as you don't have any wierd and wonderful complex dhcp configurations.

Thats great - thanks for your help guys.

hi all,

what is the "open files agent"? I am having the same problem on a job script, and need to get it resolved asap

thanks for any help you can give me

I'm also having problems with error 3404. We are using Sybase database and it seems ArcServe R.11 is not able to backup this database file?

Do we need the OFA add-on?

Thanks,
Sander
