Hi everyone, I'm new to the legend r3 system with merlin mail r3 ? i think. it seems that ext 770 thru 779 are for VM? in my system 777 goes to 18 which is the first VM port (of 4)and if it is busy the rest of the ports dont pick up! and ive noticed that when nothing is trying to access the VM it will flash the lights on port 18 then 21 then 18 and so on! and there is a large number of vm messages at ext 12?? Please help this new admin:)

Sounds like your voice mail extensions are not properly programmed as members of the voice mail calling group (in your case,777)

The first thing I would do is to unplug each of the 4 analog extensions from the back of the voice mail system and plug the cord that was going to the voice mail system into a standard analog telephone. From this analog phone, lift the handset to make sure you have dial tone, then make an internal call to a system phone that has an LCD display. This will show the extension number of that particular voice mail port on the LCD display of the system phone. Once you know the extension number of the analog port, you can then call from the system phone to the analog phone. The phone should ring. Do this one port one at a time. Write down the 4 extension numbers.

Finally, you should go into Extension programming, go to Group calling, then members. Enter your v-mail group number, you said yours was 777, so enter 777. press inspect to see which extension numbers are currently members of that group. Make any adjustments according. There should be 4 members in this group which are the extension numbers you wrote down.

Sory for the long message-hope this helps.

Thank you for replying, I did what you said and the extensions are 18,19,20,21. If i pick up a system phone i can call any one of them and the VM will pick up. The problem seems to be that if a call is transfered to VM the next call that should be transfered gets a busy signal. Also when there is no activity in the VM or the switch the lights seem to flash at ports 18 and 21 and i found 425 m essages at ext 12? thank you again i'm so confused.

Hey
What you need to do it goto
System Programming -> Exteneions -> More -> Group Calling -> Members -> Key in 777 and make sure that your 4 extentions are members on the voice mail calling group. (Generally group 770 is used for the voice mail system though.)
Also you will see activity on port 4, which in your case is extention 21, because the voice mail systems use port 4 to turn the message waiting lamps on and off.
If you want to know more let me know.
