have vista home. ie8 started displaying "page cannot be displayed". but i am leasing an ip address, and can ping my isp. i reset tcp/ip stack and winsock catalog using netsh. did not help. uninstalled ie8, rolled back to 7, still no luck. i ran hijackthis and malwarebytes and removed a bunch of malware, but still get page cannot be displayed.
 
Any luck from "Safe Mode with Networking"? What about Normal Mode but with another user?

Are you still able to get any E-mails downloaded, or is the whole Internet gone?

What firewalling do you have?

Is there any Proxy Server setting being set for IE via the Connections Tab and LAN?

Do you have a Nvidia Network Card, or are you running a Service called Bonjour, both of these have caused strange problems in the past?

Repair IE8 (IE7)

Have you tried resetting IE to Defaults or running it with No Add-ons?
