Hi,

I was using outlook express 6 and had about 5 messages in my Inbox. The power and my computer went down and after rebooting I re-opened outlook express. The 5 messages were not there and only the outlook express welcome message was there.

I found the .dbx file containing the original 5 messages in Windows, but how do I set it up so that outlook opens these messages into the inbox again?

Thanks
Kevin Smith

Assuming that u have only one account configured in Outlook, copy the DBX file to C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Identities\....(A folder with some numbers)\Microsoft\Outlook Express.

Yes, but, the file is already in that directory...

What does the file have to be named in order for OE to recognize it properly? I named it "Inbox.dbx" and it still doesn't work. OE creates a welcome message and a "Inbox(1).dbx" file in that path.

Any ideas?

DO one thing delete the file named Inbox(1).dbx, then try opening the outlook.

If it won't workout, then do one thing, delete the account that is configured currently. Close the outlook. Cut that Inbox.dbx and paste it some where else. Make sure u donot have any other Inbox.dbx on that path. Then reconfigure the outlook account. Go to that path and overwrite the file which contains messages with the one that have just been created by the new account.

I think u can got it what I had written.

Got it working, thanks!

I had to rename the file to precisely Inbox (1).dbx just like the file OE created for its welcome message. Making it Inbox.dbx wouldn't fly.

Thanks for your help,
Kevin
