Outlook Doesn't Completely Close

Got a user that closes outlook, but then when he tries to shut down it says it's still running. Task Manager still shows Outlook.exe running. I asked what had changed and he said the only thing was an Add-In called "SendLater" which allows recurring emails to be sent such as employee anniversaries and such. The problem is, the Add-In requires Outlook to be on all the time. He says he's uninstalled the program but it's still happening. He even reinstalled Outlook and it still happens.

I haven't had a chance to sit in front of his system and play around yet. Just doing some research. Any ideas?

Go to options - other - advanced options - add-in manager and remove the check mark net to the item

It's not listed. It was removed from the add-in MGR when it was uninstalled...Hell, I uninstalled Outlook and reinstalled and it's still keeping Outlook from closing. I don't get it....

I've had the same problem for some time now on one of my home computers. Strange stuff, nothing to my knowledge has ever been installed that could cause this (ie. no PDA/fax sync, no AV add-ins, no COM add-ins, etc).

Even after trying to find the culprit, still haven't found the cause. And just like you, TheFanatic, uninstall/reinstall didn't work. Something's causing it, but at least here, no identifiable cause yet.

It doesn't fully close once or twice per day, and is typically realized as still open when my audio player (foobar) of all things, won't start.

Actually we found the culprit. It was a program called Inter-Tel Unified Messaging. The VP failed to inform me that he installed this add-in as well. What Unified Messaging does is synch voicemail into email. It's really cool. Turns phone mssages into Wav files. That way, they are all listed with dates and times and can be seen graphically as opposed to a list you have to listen to when logged into the phone system.

We uninstalled that and the problem is gone. The only problem is the VP really wants to use this software so I have to come up with a way to get it to work without the problems with Outlook. I contacted the vendor to see what they can do. The software is an older version, so maybe an upgrade will resolve the issue.

Good Luck Anchovy. Just curious, is your system an older system? Have you run Spybot or Adaware recently? It sounds like your system is getting bogged down with crap in the background and halting the shit down. Just a thought....Good luck....

Nadda... I built it less than 5 months ago, if that. No ad/spy-ware to be found outside of the typical cookies found.

Anywho, all of the commonly reported problems have been checked to no avail. My boot drive is the smallest/slowest I own, and I've got new drives... so whenever I get off my duff & replace it the problem will be gone with a fresh install. (however, it would be nice to know the cause).

I had the same problem and found it as caused, oddly enough by my Rules Wizard. I deleted all the rules and voila Outlook closes completly. I am intending on creating my rules agin one at a time to see if I can determine which one may have caused the problem.
