I have a user that everytime she opens up Outlook 2K the CPU shoots up to 99% in the Task Manager. Not sure if it is related or not, but she also has trouble dismissing her reminders. I am on the newest service pack (SP3) and have all the updates from the automatic updater from microsoft. I have used the "c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Outlook.exe" /cleanreminders from the Knowlege Base to see if that corrects or reminders and seems to have cleared one that was reoccurring, but the problem still persists. You open up Outlook, and just watch and wait (not clicking) and the processor jumps up to 99%. I am clueless, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Could be a variety of things.
(1) Are there any other applications acting like this or is it just outlook?
(2) Is this Computer up to date with the latest virus definitions? Could be a virus. I would start with this first. Make sure you have the latest virus signatures and run a full system scan. Check out their websites (I.E - Symantec or MCAFEE) on the recommended scan procedures to remove viruses.
(3)If step2 does not work I would suggest deinstalling office2000/reinstalling office2000

No, word isnt the email editor, she is sending email as plain text.

Have you cleaned up her PC lately?
Did you try recreating her Outlook profile on her PC?

Have you tried deleting her Outlook profile and adding the profile again? What version of office do you have? SP3 is the latest.

I just had to recreate her .pst file for other reasons about 2 months ago. Also have random issues with her quickfind, but deleting the registry key and recreating it works. It is on SP3 and no other updates are necessary (says microsoft) We are just using outlook as a email client to a POP server so no mailbox to recreate. My next step will be to regenerate her pst, but i am going to make a copy and open it on mine to see if my outlook behaves the same way with her pst file. Her pst is about 420MB also.

If you have Office 2000, and haven't yet installed Service Pack 3, you should start by reading the information at . Although it may be difficult to wade through the gobbledygook, that Knowledge Base article tells you about a big bug in Service Pack 3. Most people won't hit it. But if you install Service Pack 3, then start Outlook 2000, there's a small chance that Outlook will "red line" - run up to 100% processor utilization. Not to worry, though. Thanks for your support, Gavona. I get the attitude from time to time from different people and even from different sites 'cause they insist I'm just trying to advertise. If I was trying to advertise, where's my banner ads and popups? Why wouldn't I just send them all to my home page and force them to find it? Some people think I point them to the cleanyourpc thing because I can't think of any other fix. They're right. If I don't have knowledge of it being a known issue, then that's exactly where I start. And I'm pretty knowledgeable in the Office suite stuff. I've been using Outlook 2K (AND SUPPORTING IT) for as long as it's been out. I never heard of this issue...that is...until I saw Woody's newsletter. Now there's a place to advertise.
