I have a client who I setup a home network for, she wants to be able to read her mail from her laptop and see the same exact messages (read and unread)on her desktop. I imported the .pst file to her laptop so that she could see her current messages. She does not have exchange installed, so the only thing I can think of is to export the .pst when she's on her laptop to her desktop. Oh by the way I used a Linksys router to connect. Any ideas??

If I understand you correctly this will work.

The email client on the laptop needs to point to the .PST file on the desktop. Share the appropriate directory on the desktop that contains the .PST file. On the laptop map a network drive to the share on the laptop. Delete the .PST file on the laptop. The email client on the laptop should point to the .PST file on the desktop as the default mailbox. I have done this exactly with Outlook and it works like a charm. Not sure what email client you are using but it should still work.

Hope this helps....

I thought about that but did not give it much thought. I was afraid that it would be a permissions problem or some type of sharing violation. I'll give it a try this weekend, oh by the way both the desktop and laptop use outlook 2000 as the e-mail client.

rshendrix - I have exactly the same problem as 1259 and your solution sounds sensible if the user never uses outlook off the network. What happens when the user is offline and trying to read email contacts etc?

Ive just set up a small network which uses PC Sync to keep docs synced between PC and laptop and am thinking about doing the same thing with the outlook pst files. However, would be good if the solution didnt require any user interaction and Im a bit concerned that .PSTs corrupt sometimes when they are copied. Any other ideas? Thanks.
