I have Outlook 2000 and cannot "reply" to emails. Each time I try I get an error message (505) telling me that relaying messages is not allowed by the server I am sending to. While this may be true, I am curious why I only started getting these error after I upgraded my Office product from 2000 to XP.

An actual message is below:

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

'Secure Internet Server' on 9/4/2002 9:29 AM
550 relaying mail to secureiserver.com is not allowed

I have "relpied" to emails from these and others before with success. Does anyone have an explanation for this occurance?

Hi CG,

Can you describe the network connection you have.

It sounds like you have your connection to the internet through a different ISP then the ISP owner for the outgoing mail server you are using. So the outgoing server does not allow relaying of messages from outside of their network.

If this is the case then you need to change the outgoing mail server to the one that is provided by the ISP provider for your Internet connection. joegz
