Open without saving Level 2....

My bosses are on my case and I need a fix, if one is available.

We've upgraded to Office XP and I used the Level1Remove registry fix to allow them access to certain files. However, .xls files require that they 'Save to disk' before they can 'Open' them. This is a huge annoyance for them. If only there was a Level2Remove reg-hack.

If anyone knows if this is possible, please let me know. In summary I want a way to open .xls files without having to save them to disk first.

You can only change the list of files that are included in the Level 2 category if you are using Outlook in an Exchange environment and your mail is being delivered to an Exchange mailbox. An administrator must make these changes.

We are using Outlook 2002 in an Exchange (5.5) environment. I've tried the trick with an "Outlook 10 Security Settings" public folder and a tuned OutlookSecurity.oft in it. Read rights for everyone and Control rights for the admin on it. I've also added the CheckAdminSettings registry key on the client PC with value 2. Nevertheless... I still cannot open e.g. a .LNK file from an email. Although I added LNK extensions in the Level2 AND Level1 remove section of the OFT. I've walked thru every step in the readme.doc found in admpack.exe.
If you have any advise, please let me know. Thanks in advance...

IT WORKS !
I walked thru the readme.doc from admpack.exe once more and now it works. I assume it is because now I saved the message/OFT in the public folder, whereas earlier I removed the message. I saw the folder was 133 KB anyway, unlike an empty (0 KB) folder. I suppose I should leave the message in the folder. Haven't tested yet which settings rule when more messages are in the public folder after editing.

I am in the same situation - need a leve2remove fix for an Outlook 2003 / Exchange 2003 environment. Do you know of an article that explains how to do this? Many thanks, Phil Graham
