I am using MetaFrame 1.8 for NT on an EMC Symmetrix. I am only able to get 37 users logged in per server and then it denys access to the 38 users. I was able to get more users on before we migrated to the SAN, but now that it is on the SAN I am getting less users. Anyone encountered this problem before? {nosmiley}

I have enough licenses, so that is not the issue. The access issue has steadly declined from 51 users to 48 users to 43 users to currently 37 users.

A reboot does not get me back up to the 50 user level.

Do a query farm /app and check that the load evaluator isn't preventing users from getting on (ie it might think that there's not enough resources for 50 users and so is cutting back). If you are using the load evaluator, perhaps temporarily go back to using the Default.

I'd also check the system logs on the server - clues can frequently be found there eg perhaps running out of seat licenses etc.....

Cheers

We had a similar problem but it ended up being a Microsoft Terminal Server Licensing issue and we had to call Microsoft and have them reissue our terminal server licenses because it wasn't reissuing a license to each terminal.

It looks like you need more MS Terminal Server licenses - you will need one for every PC that accesses the Metaframe server, because they are not reused or concurrent. If you change the PC's id then you've lost the licence. If NT4 server then just increase the licenses, if 2000, you'll probably need to contact Microsoft or buy some more and activate.

It's not a licensing issue. We thought that it was a registery memory usage problem, but that is not it. I don't even know of another company that is booting from as SAN for the Citrix MetaFrame. I've called a couple of consulting firms and they all tell me that they have not worked in our environment and don't know of anyone else doing this. I guess I'll keep searching. Thanks for everyone's help. If anyone has more ideas, please send them my way.

What error message is displayed when a user is refused access?

The error message that I am getting is as follows:

"Unable to use profile, would you like to install local profile instead?"

If you answer yes "The operating system was unable to load your profile. Please contact your Netowrk Administrator."

If you answer no, it closes down the window.

Here is some information for a consultant that I have been working and speaking with is:

Citrix recommends that you do not move your existing farm over as is but create a new image and clone from that. I'll keep you guys posted on this issue. I'm going to create from scratch and move forward.

Ah. Check your Application event log. I betcha got a few Event ID 1000's in it. If this is the case then:

1. You changed Permissions on the local %system root%\Profiles folder. The EVERYONE group needs Change permissions to load the profile. You also need at least Read on the system root and drive root.

2. If the system partition is low on space, or the registry size limit has been exceeded, the profile can fail to load.

3. The profile is corrupted. Either the local Ntuser.dat, Ntuser.man or the roaming copy of Ntuser.dat is corrupted. When this occurs, there is usually an event indicating a RegLoadKey failure.

4. The %system root%\Profiles\Default User folder is missing and the account does NOT have a cached local profile and is NOT configured for a roaming profile.

Cheers
