Can I program a button to 1. select a line pool and 2. dial an external number? I know how to do these two tasks seperately, but I'd like to have one button, which when pushed, dials the complete sequence with no other action from the user.

Thanks,
Bernie

You should be able to program a speed dial button using feature *1, then press the button you wish to program, then dial the number you wish to store and hit ok. If that doesn't work, make sure the set has access to the appropriate line pool. Depending on how your system is configured, you may need to put an access code in front of the number when you program it.

First thing is program a spare pool button using f*3, press a button, then enter f649 if pool code is 9. Now press f*1, press the button you want to be your speed dial, press the pool button you set up, now enter your tel number and press ok. When you hit the speed dial button, it will grab a line from the pool and dial your number. You can now delete your spare pool button.

Bingo! Thanks!

Is there any way to program all that directly? I tried to string together the feature code but it threw me out of programming the button. I looked at it in programming, but I'm sure how to string it together their either.

Thanks again for the tip.

You need to have a separate pool button to select prior to entering your number, you can't just enter the codes and the number all in one go.

If the set has access to the line pool then all you have to do is :
1. Feature *1 Press button you want to program
2. Dial <line pool access code> then the telephone number.
You don't have to have a dial out button to do this.

DigitelD,

I tried that and it didn't work. When you press the button, the display says "No Line Selected"

I forgot to tell you, you need to change the prime line of the phone to pickup on the line pool when going offhook if you do not have a line pool code programmed. Normally if the phone has a prime line of intercom programming a 9 before your number will select a line and dial the number.

If you dont have a Line Pool Button on your set, just do Feature *1, push the button you want to program and then push I/C then the line pool number and your phone number you want and then ok or the Hold button to save it.

Works great on my MICS 5.0 with one touch of the speed dial button, no access codes, no line pool buttons, no manual line selection, all you need is access to the line pool on that set.

Are you using Centrex lines? If so, you may have to program your centrex code in the dial out string. (eg... F*1 995551212, ok.)
As a rule, you program the number exactly as you would dial it, inserting the appropriate Pool code.

To verify, pick up your handset. Does your display say "Line XXX", remain blank, or say no line selected? If either of the last 2, press 9 (or 8, or 7...). Do you get an outside line? That's your pool code.

If not, your lines may not be assigned to a pool. Call your local equipment vendor, and they can probably talk you through the appropriate programming over the phone.

Rik,

The problem was there was not a default prime line on the set. I am the local equipment vendor. This is a new system for us and as typical, sales wanted one installed before the techs could get trained, so I'm having to climb the learning curve.

Thanks to everyone for the help on what is generally a basic type question I should have been able to figure out.

Bernie-

I know that feeling. Most of us out there selling Digital Mobility are in the same boat. Luckily, Nortel's new wireless is far simpler to install than the old Companion.

Did you get it figured out?

From your original post (Technical User), I wasn't sure if you were the tech or the customer. Norstars can be a bit more confusing than other systems, having several different variables that affect a single feature.

Rik,

Yes I got it working. Each system has its own unique way of doing things. It's just a matter of learning those ways.

I should probably figure out how to change my designation. I didn't want to portray myself as an expert, so I chose that one.
