We're replacing our poor old Legend 2.5 soon and I was asked to find out about saving the existing voicemail messages in the system for future reference. (IT guy stumbling through PBX stuff here.) I found in the software where I can backup the info, cfg, personal greetings etc. and include the messages themselves. I haven't actually run the backup yet because it's estimating close to an hour to run and of course no messages can be left during that time.

I'm sure I'll have my answer once I'm able to run the backup, but for my own sanity, once that's done how will I be able to get/listen to the individual messages. How are they stored? wav, mp3, etc. (I know...not likely mp3...just an exmaple)

Thanks.

I don't think you can extract the message from the backup files.

What are you replacing it with? On an IP Office, I've used the Call Record feature to dial in and retrieve messages, which saves as a wav file in VM Pro. From there you can slice and dice in Audacity.

Oooo...not the answer I was hoping for, but thanks.

The new system is a Mitel hybrid. We still have to keep a majority of the handsets digital for off hook voice announce. As far as I'm aware, we won't have connectivity from the new system to the old to dial in as you descibe, other than keeping old handsets connected for the time being. It would just be an isolated phone system with no connection to the outside because it will be off of the T-1 at that point.

It does give me an idea of using an in-line digital recorder, though. We don't have tons of users, but it could still be cumbersome. I could at least get the executives saved that way.

Thanks Tom
