Hi Everyone,
IPO Essential 12.1 with 1 combo card and 16 port nortel Module. 3 Analog trunks

Yes I know, Nortel phones in 2025. We have a customer (who does not want to spend money obviously) using 10 Nortel T7316e. When calling into the company, the reception phone rings, user picks up the call and starts talking, however the Nortel phone finishes its ring. Meaning if the user is fast, they can start talking and both the user and caller hear the rest of the ringtone. This is only happening on the nortel phones, we tried a digital 9508 and it works fine. This also happens with ext to ext calls internally.

Hunt groups, incoming call routes, direct incoming route, line appearances, auto attendants. Have all been all been played with and I think I can rule those out.

I think it is clear enough that it is related to the Nortel sets. I know the obvious answer is to rip out the "past their prime" Nortel phones, does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve it while still using Nortel phones ?

That jogged my memory. I have some old notes from back in the 9.X days. In that case, everything related to the operation of Nortel digital sets was slow - dialing, answering, you name it. It did not happen on TCM8 cards, only DS30B modules. I didn't see the issue in 10 or 11, but have not done anything with 12, and all systems I worked on with Nortel digital sets have moved on.

You could try the below if you're feeling brave.

Connect via the DTE to the module and run the Tick period command:
Type: tickperiod
Tick Period?

Type: 1

Then place test calls - To make this change survive reboots you can use the following commands to set the environment variable.

Type: setenv tickperiod 1
Type: saveenv
abort
