Yeah, you can network two switches together using E&M, here's how it works.....How to Network two Modular ICS systems together using E&M Lines
Each E&M card handles (2) trunks each. E&M cards cannot go into the KSU. They must go into trunk modules and are only compatible with Modular ICS & Modular 8X24 phone systems.
You’ll need to order however many E&M tie circuits that you need. You will tell Telco who is site A and site B. If you are using a T-1 you will need to tell Telco which channels you want to designate E&M tie circuits. Make sure you tell them that you need Type II 4 pair circuits. Norstar will not do Type 1.
You will need to disable the card, program it to be E&M, then re-enable it.
To Disable / Enable Card:
From Terminals & Sets – Next until you get to Maintenance – Show
Next until get to Module Status – Show
Show module – Next
KSU (1):
Next until get to the correct module – Show
Mod8: ( ) cards – Press Card
Card 1: 0 lines – Press State
( ) Ports Busy – Press Disable / Enable
Disable at once? – Yes
Changing Card Type:
Hardware – Show
Show Module – Next
Cards on KSU – Next until get to the appropriate Module
Mod 08: Trunk Mod – Show
CD1 – Mod8: Loop – Change to E&M then Press Next
Cd2 – Mod8: Loop – Change to E&M then Press Next to change the third card if needed.
Now re-enable the card
In order for site A to dial site B you will need to put all the E&M trunks in a line pool, assign it an access code and give that line pool access to each extension.

This must be done each extension you want to be able to dial to the other site.
When callers from one side pick up their handset and dial the access code for the line pool containing the E&M trunks they will hear intercom tone of the other side. They can then dial an extension. In order for the call to ring at the dialed extension you must assign a Target Line to each extension of both sides. The Received digits will be the extension number itself.
Target Lines Programming:
From Lines – Show
Show LN: 145 – Show (target line range from 145-275 non-XC SW, 145-336 XC SW)
Target LN – Next
Private to: (extension number) – Next
Rec’d #: (enter extension #) – Next
If Busy: to prime – Next
PrimeSet: 221 change to the extension # - Next
CLID Set: None – Next
Aux. Ringer: N – Next

Your customer will be able to transfer calls across the tie lines, call each other, page over each others paging system and call out over each others local lines.
For example......
Someone at site A in California will be able to pick up their handset, dial an access code (or put it on a single button), get dial tone of the other side (side B in New York) dial any extension number and have it ring the phone.
They will be able to pick up, press the E&M pool button, dial New York's outside line pool access code and get local dial tone in New York.
They will also be able to press the pool button and make a page over New York's paging speakers.
In addition, if a call comes to California and it actually needs to go to someone in New York, they can press transfer, press the pool button, dial the appropriate extension, have the person pick up, announce the call and hang up to complete the transfer.
It works vise versa from Site B New York to Site A in California.

Yes. This is exactly the concise breakdown of services I was looking for. Our company works with Norstar and Meridian exclusively, but we have not networked either of these systems before. Appreciate very much the detail and clarity of your reply.

What would lyour thoughts be toward connecting those two systems using SL1 format between the two MICS, I only did this during training but we had set up two MICS back to back with the t1 operating as a prime then use routing tables to route calls instead of pool codes. advantage was that it would also pass originating line ID so that a call on MICS A extension 2221 would be able to see that the call came from MICS B extension 3221. also wouldnt have to wait between dialing the first number (pool code) and then the extension to be called. supposably the new release of software will also allow a centralized voicemail/AA on a unified dial plan, (Hold breath) JerryReeve

You then have to configure the systems PRI in order to pass some sort of caller ID. You would program up the switch using routes and dest codes (as is needed with PRI)instead of pools/pool codes. But the rest is the same, target lines on each side with Rec'd digits of the extension, assign the target line to the extension.
Only snag is that when a call comes into MICS A ext 2221 and they transfer it to 3221 (3 being the dest code, 221 being the digits dialed), 3221 will see that there is a call coming in from 2221 but not the originating OUTSIDE line Caller ID. Also we cannot do a blind transfer across it. It drops the call.
BUT if you hard call forward a phone in MICS A to a phone in MICS B..... the Line Caller ID information will show up.

Must be nice to have a working lab with two mics, Hopefully Norstar will get the bugs straightened out for networking norstars together. It would be a big help if they could include the CICS in their networking plans also. JerryReeve

Yeah we have a pretty nice set up here. An Opt 11 is simulating Telco for us... we have two MICSs, a 8X24, a CICS, 2 NAMS and a Flash. ;-) But that's what they pay us to do.... break it and fix it. I'm in a tech support operation.
Maybe with 6.0 they'll have some improvements on the situation but alas, no CICS involvement yet.
