Hello,

This is my first posting. I have a Norstar Meridian phone system here & I am trying to find out how to route DID numbers. I have a new employee & his direct line number routes to a different extension. Is it possible to change the route via some programming setting on the phone??

Thanks in advance!

First allow me to say that this is something that is generally taken care of by your vendor. If you are unfamiliar with programming, I would recommend calling them, as there are some variables involved.

However, if you are familiar with Norstar programming, then the general idea is to assign the DID to a target line, and assign the target line to the extension. If it is already showing up on an extension, you may only have to move the target line from that extension to the one you want it to appear at. But, the more likely scenario is that the DID is ringing at the other extension because it is prime (like a receptionist station) there, in which case you would have to build the target line, then assign it.

DID's can be tricky if you are not familiar with them.
Take your time and fully understand what you are trying to do,or you could change something that could affect the way the phone works.
Make sure you are changnig the right Ext's DID.

Thanks for the info. I have used the programming feature for quite a while but I have never tried anything with DID's. Our phone provider charges us $150.00 an hour so I would like to take care of this myself. The new employee is at extension 150 & his DID is ringing extension 170. The person at extension 170 already has a DID that works correctly. Does anyone know how to access the DID feature from the phone? I would assume that it is in the **266344 section of the programming but I don't know where.....

Thanks!!

I will bite my lip on this one, but call a different vendor.
Anymore, everyone is a Norstar wizz.

Why are you biting your lip? I don't really want to call a different vendor. If I do call one, then I will have to deal with annoying sales guys for the next year or so....

basically, go into the programming, (with **266344), go to terminals and sets, type ext 170, goto line access, look at the lines he has assigned. He should have 2. One of them is the 150 line, the other 170. (Hopefully the lines were labelled, otherwise you have to guess).. One of the lines needs to be removed acesss to. (Remove the appear and ring), then you go back to terminals and sets of ext 150, line access again, and give him access to the same line # you just removed from the other set.

At This point, either it works fine, or they both have the wrong lines ringing on their phone. (meaning ext 150 has line 170 ringing on it, and vice-versa) .. If this is the case, you need to reverse what you just did.

If none of this is making sense, seriously, call a different vendor. I agree with everyone else, this is funky stuff and you should know what ure doing.

Good luck .. Please don't hold me responsible if u mess up ure programming .. everyone else warned you .. :)

Query the lines on the button where the DID rings on. Describe in greater details what the problem is and what you want to achieve.

Are you looking for a step by step procedure to fix it or do you have an idea of what you are doing.

Gotta run but I will reply later or tomorrow.

Thanks for the help. I will try it out here in a few minutes. I have been working with the Norstar systems for about 6 years but I have not ever done anything with DID's. I will report my success / failure when I am done.

Thanks!

Sorry to have gotten back to you so late.... What a mess... The lines were not labeled correctly. It took a bit but I figured it out. Thanks for your help!!

OH Yeah.... Hey Marv01... This is a place where you go to find help & offer help, not discourage others. This forum would not work if everyone was like you.

Thanks again DigitalMind!!

Thanks for the thanks .. but it should be noted that Marv01 is a huge contributor on this site, and only said what he thought was safest for you. Fiddling with DID's is not a good thing to do when you haven't done it.

Sorry to have offended you 8lackd0G, that is why is mentioned biting my lip. I dislike the phrase "Call a vendor", because I do believe in helping on this forum, but I have also seen DID programming completely screwed up to the point that the complete system was down. Now that you have worked with them, hopefully you can see my point.
DigitalMind, thank you for your vote of confidence.
