Norstar CICS easy to program?

Hi All,

I am, by profession, a telecom analyst with years of experience working on large scale Avaya Definity PBX's. I am experienced in programming and tech work, punch down, etc.

A friend with a small business has asked me to install a small phone system for him. I am looking at the Norstar CICS system, which seems quite nice.

Having lots of PBX experience, but no Nortel experience, I'm wondering if you think this is something I would be able to install and program myself, with the help of course, of this forum.

We are only talking about 3 CO trunks, 6 tel sets, voice mail and auto-attendant. The package I'm looking at purchasing can be found here:

PBXMann this should be a breeze for you but avaya and nortel are miles apart. I have work on The Nortel Products but if you have a Norstar be sure to get a Manual.

Programming a Norstar will be a breeze for you. After working with a command line like you do on the Definity, the Norstar can seem to be annoyingly simple (Actually, I prefer programming a Definity over a Norstar). Now, it you have ever worked with the Avaya Partner Systems, it would be much easier to relate to Norstar. They are similar in the sense that you scroll through menus, and then sub-menus. And the other thing that Avaya and Nortel do have in common are well written manuals. Everything is spelled out perfectly, and the procedures work just as described.
