I have a norstar 0x32 system that we just got 2 new caller ID trunk cards and replaced our LS/DS Cards. After replacing the cards the caller id is not working. I went into the system to find the CLID option to enable it and can not find it. The caller ID doesn't work either. Any help will be great! I have listed the info on the system below.

Version info from within config
30NCG19NAT

Software and NV Ram Card
Rel.1 T1

The sticker says Rel 11a & NT7B72FA-93 or might have been NT7872FA-93

Thanks in advance for any help.

First things first do you have Caller ID Service riding on the phone lines from the phone company?

Yes there is CLID service from phone company.

R1T1 will only auto display CLID info on one DN per line. Otherwise you must use F811 to see CLID info before answering the call. The line must appear and ring on the designated DN to auto display. Look for a heading like Telco Features in Configuration programming. This is the area where you assign the call display DN to each line. Upgrading to R6.1 allows all phones to auto display CLID info.

Do you have auto attendant, if so, does it answer at 0 rings? Call display needs 2 rings before call display will show for sure. If there is no AA let the line ring twice, if there is no display when you answer you either have a bad card, or the CO is not sending clid. To check put your test set on the line, call it and you should hear a data burst after the first ring, if not the CO is not sending clid.

There is an AA, and it answers on the second ring. Then give the list of people and the DN's so the caller can select the DN to transfer to. I will check to make sure here is a clid data burst in the morning.

I think phoneguy427 has the most likely correct answer. Even if your auto attendant is set to answer on the "second" ring you may need to increase it to more rings. Norstar caller ID seems to need 2 FULL rings before it will register the caller ID data. For some reason it takes this long for the Norstar to interpret the caller ID data being sent from telco. Your auto attendant may be picking up DURING the second ring before the second ring is actually finished (as in the CID card is only really getting 1.5 rings). Just to test it, try setting auto attendant to pickup on 4 rings to see if your CID cards are good.

The caller ID information is sent in between the first and second ring.

I have been installing these for 12 years. Setting the AA to pickup in two rings has always worked just fine.

Can anyone point me in the direction to find a newer software so that we can have CLID on all sets? Prefer to find someone that is inexpensive of course.

Thanks

Also will upgrading to a new version that supports CLID on all sets require reprogramming the whole system? If so is there an easy way to backup and then restore or a proceedure that will make it easier for the upgrade?

You will have to upgrade your software to a minimum of 5.0 in order to have caller ID appear automatically for each phone that has that line at least appearing on it.

You can use upgrade tools to save most of your programming. Keep in mind that upgrading your KSU software could make it incompatible with any voicemail you may have.

What voicemail, if any, do you have on the system?

One other thing I just saw when reading thru posts, We have a startalk Flash system, Will that work with upgrading to 6.1 or 7.0 software?

Also what would be the benifit of upgrading to 7.0?

The only extra function we are looking for currently is to have caller ID on all the sets.

Thanks

As I mentioned, you will need at least 5.0 software to get that caller ID feature you are looking for.

The Flash would have to be 1.9 or 2.0 software level to work with 5.0.

The benefits to coming up to 7.0 is as follows:
Software Feature Advancements

MICS R1T1 First software available to allow a T-1 span. Not PRI. Just a straight T-1. Maximum of 2 spans in the system.

MICS 1.0 Destination codes added. 7 digit limit.

MICS 1.1 Analog station module recognition added. Automatic Daylight savings time added. 300 call log spaces. Page timeout added. Page tone on/ off added.

MICS 2.0 Feature ** TIME date and time programming added. Park codes upgraded from 9 codes to 25 codes. 600 call log spaces. Incoming Caller ID available. Static date and time added.

MICS 4.0 Software now allows the installation of PRI (Primary Rate Interface ) T-1 spans. Still maximum of 2 spans permitted in the switch. Hunt groups added. E911 PRI service added. Ability to network to a Meridian SL®1 added.

MICS 4.1 External Call Forwarding allowed. Hospitality features offered. Outgoing name and number blocking allowed.

MICS 5.0 Centralized voicemail with Meridian® option added. Private Networking allowed.

MICS 6.0 CLID on all target lines. Copy option for control sets and lines. Distinctive ringing added. ETSI call redirection added. ETSI MCID added. MCDN ICCL, TAT, Camp-on, Break-in added. Networking Norstar® to Norstar® added. Centralized voicemail and auto attendant Norstar® to Norstar® allowed. System speed dials upgraded to 255 from 70. User speed dials number from 256 – 279. 24 entries. System wide call appearances allowed. Third T-1/ PRI span allowed.

MICS 6.1 CLID when busy. Destination codes upgraded to 12 digits. Silent monitoring on incoming hunt group calls allowed.

MICS 7.0 Opened up ports 13 and 14 for station and digital mobility modules. Target lines are expanded by 32.

There are a few more software feature enhancements but those are the top ones.

Mr. Roberts,
You stated that we would have to upgrade to at least 5.0 to have Call Id on all sets that have apearances. But in your last post with the version info it shows that version 6.0 is where all sets can have caller id. Is it ver 5.0 or 6.0 that is required?

Also I checked the voicemail and I believe it is ver 2.0.02?

It has NT5B78EC REL 01
E/S Flash VM 2.0.02 Feature Cartridge

On the flash card. so am I correct in assuming that it is version 2.0.02? and will that support the software upgrade to either 5.0 or 6.0 which ever one is needed for called ID on all sets?

Thanks for the help.
