Hello all,
I've inherited some problems with the office Nortel Norstar system. We don't have a telephone sysAdmin and really can't afford one, so I'm the one that has to set it up now.

I've setup as much as I can but have hit a roadblock.

When someone calls into the office and asks for a person's voicemail, I need to have an option to allow them to reach the person directly via sellphone (by pressing 7 from the VM message prompt)

Now I've set it up to the point where this "almost" allows this, the issue is, once the caller reaches the proper mailbox and presses 7, they always get the message "the routing resources needed for this call are busy."

What am I doing wrong?

For example, setting up my own mailbox to do this:
Feature 981
Password
Admin
8 (outbound xfr)
Admin
Changed the outbound number (212)xxx-xxxx
Transfer:eek:n
Quit

When I call my office number, transfer the call to voicemail and press 7 to get it to transfer to the outbound nunber, the recording states "the routing resources needed for this call are busy"

Please Help,
Ed

Here we go again... "can't afford a phone tech". Your company can't afford NOT to hire one who can train you. The cost of you hunting and pecking your way through far exceeds training.

To your problem. It's because your system is not setup to allow such a transfer. You must set a route and destination to use for this purpose.

Thanks for the quick reply allworxguy.
Unfortunately this is the case, the company is very close to bankruptcy, but that's neither here nor there.

How do I go abut setting up a route and destination?

At the moment when I go to destination codes in services there are "none defined". As for routes, there are Rte000 thru Rte999 with
DialOut: No number Use: Pool A

Cheers

I too would suggest a couple of hours of training with a certified technician.

Unless you work for nothing or minimum wage you will spend countless hours trying to resolve this issue not counting the great possibility of someone hacking in to your system by allowing outbound transfer in having to pay 10 of thousands in long distance fees.

Well, you hit the nail on the head. I actually work for free, this is my family's failing business and I am basically trying to desperately help them out.

The sob story is that the guy that was in charge of all of this and was trained by a certified technician on the system a few years ago left to start a competing company, leaving my folks high and dry. He won't hack or anything of the sort because of legal issues, but he wont help them out either.

So again I'm left figuring this out, since they cannot afford to pay for a techie.

And so my questions remain.
I've now tried setting up a rounte to go to the mobile number (needed to connect from the VM) however I can't figure out how destinations work. It looks like it only allows one digit numbers.

Our external code is 9, Direct dial is 0 Auto and DISA DN are none and park prefix is 1.

Thanks in advance

Quick and simple is remove the external code and pool code of 9 and make a route and point it to pool A then make a destination code with a 9 and use route to pool A.

If you set up outbound transfer & do not get the proper long distance retriction filters on your outbound dialing you are asking for trouble.Ironhorse warned you in his post. If you get hacked for thousands of dollars in long distance do not say that you were not warned. Would not take a qualified tech more than an hour to do this for you!!!!!!!!
