Hi there.

I just inherited a small Nortel system to manage, and as far as I can tell, it's just an 824 system. It only has 5 CO's and about 12 extensions on it, in an office environment.

Theres an expansion cabinet on it which was a mystery to me, but after reading a bit here I *assume* it's because of CLID capabilities on the unit.

I'm trying to get up to speed as much as I can, but there's a LOT of info out there to sort through.

So. basically. I see MICS anc CICS thrown around a lot. what's the difference ? does this refer to hardware, firmware, or what ?... Thanks a bunch. sorry for the noobie ??..

Hardware. CICS has a capacity of 8 lines and 16 stations. MICS starts w/ the 8 lines and 24 stations but can be expanded via various modules (Analog station modules, trunk modules, station modules). The 8x24 system is the predecessor to the MICS.

Ahh... okay.

that's kinda what I thought, but wasn't sure.

so the 824 and the MICS look basically the same from the outside, right ?

Thanks

Correction, the MICS KSU starts off w/ 8 lines and 32 stations. The 8x24 ksu starts off w/ 8 lines and 24 stations. Check out It has pictures, etc of both systems.
