When I check the properties of a folder on my XP Pro system, I can't get the Security tab so I can change access to various users to be displayed. I have unchecked "Use simple file sharing" under folder options and that didn't fix it. Any ideas?

Are you a member of a workgroup or domain?
Are there other users defined?

To do anything good with the security tab you should convert the drive to NTFS.

I agree with bcastner's call on NTFS since FAT/FAT32 doesn't have security. Check what file system you are using by right-clicking your hard-drive and choosing properties.

Just as something to add...if you find its FAT32 and you wish to convert to NTFS...then type the following in a command prompt (start > run > cmd)

C:\> CONVERT C: /fs:ntfs

You won't lose any information and this will take effect upon your next reboot.

That was the one thing I missed was the file system, thanks for all the help. Nice tip Linney on how to get rid of the Security tab.
