Hey all,
I recently invested in a laptop (Sony Vaio) running XP pro. I also have a desktop running XP home. Using a crossover cable and Acton card, I thought I might network the two for file sharing purposes. My problem is that although the network connection seems to be present, I can't access either terminal from the other, even though file sharing and security is set to allow it.
Whenever I try to access the other terminal in Network connections, I get a message stating that I don't have permisson to access this terminal, and to see my administrator for access.
What does this mean, and more importantly, how can I fix it?

Any ideas/suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Kev.

Back to the top.......

Tried adding a new user, but no luck there.
Both puters see each other on the network, but I can't seem to access any folders on either puter from the other.
Keep getting a "no access - see admin. " error message.

I have set the security and sharing options so that they are open to user across the network, but still no luck.

ANY help appreciated on this guys.

Kev.

Try using Simple File Sharing (Folder Options/ View) on the PRO Machine. Also try rebooting (both machines) when you change anything on your simple network setup.

Are you able to ping between machines?
Is there any firewall interfering?

. Workgroup name identical, computer name unique
. No blank or empty passwords, use real username and passwords at logon
. All users of computer A made users of computer B, and vice-versa
. If using NTFS as a filestore, make sure that the Group Everyone is given permission to the shared Folders. This is especially true for folders in user Profiles, as they are usually marked with permissions to only the Profile user.
