How do I get rid of the Network Neighborhood icon on the desk top? Windows 98 SE. I did it on another laptop but can't remember how.

If i remember correctly you have to use the policy editor and mark it to hide the icon.

Thanks but no good, I don't have a policy editor. I should have said that this computer isn't even on a network. Is it possible to delete the Network folder which is present even though there is no network? What if I just removed all references to Network from the registry?

Delete all references to cards and protocols from control panel, network. Ed Fair

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply. Help increase my knowledge by providing some feedback, good or bad, on any advice I have given.

Removing the "Client For Microsoft Networks" entry under your network properties should do the trick. Right-click Network Neighborhood and choose properties to get there. Make sure you reboot for the changes to take effect.
