Hey,

I've got a 10/100 Base-T Ethernet
network between my two computers.
When one of the computers are off
I get a network disconnected icon
in the taskbar. Any way to stop
the icon from appearing? Probably
a registry key or something? I know
when the computer is off as it is
right next to me, don't need a icon!

Thank you,
karmafree.

There is a check box in the properties of the connection that allows the tray icon to be shown or not, however if this is unchecked the icon will not be there when you are connected either. All things are possible except skiing through a revolving door.

If you mean by doing properties on the "my network places" icon on the desktop then doing properties on the "local area connection" then checking "show icon in notification area when connected" does not do what is required! - it makes sure there is always an icon showing! - the complete opposite of what I want!

If you select "hide inactive icons" via the Taskbar Properties it will keep the taskbar notification area from displaying unused icons.

Not that this helps, but just adding my comment. Ever since I've had XP, I've been searching long and hard for the answer to this question as well. Whomever posts the answer here, I'll give them a nice shiny star (and my thanks) if they answer this question.
