The ethernet connection to my modem died abruptly at 6:41pm last night. The rest of the system was working fine at this point. I use the onboard lan on ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe. I can't ping anything (destination unreachable), Device Manager says this device is working correctly. Tried system restore - no luck. Thinking initially it was a Windows problem I tried everything I know, ip /release /renew, Winsock Fix, sfc /scannow etc.
Looking in the Event viewer I see the following Error Message at the same time:
The IP address lease for 192.168.0.2 for the network card with network address:(blah) has been denied by the DHCP server 192.168.0.1 (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message)
Tried uninstalling, reinstalling network drivers, controllers etc - no go.
Then did a repair reinstallation, got through setup but system in a rebooting loop after that.
Disabled Onboard LAN in BIOS, performed another repair reinstallation, system in reboot loop afterwards in same manner.
I am writing this now using Knoppix, there is no problem with the onboard lan at all.
I just can't get xp to boot, tried safe mode and it freezes on loading a particular file acp347.sys I think - I can't check without losing all my settings in Knoppix.
Please help, this is very important. Thank you.

Happo,

As you can't access SafeMode I would try these fixes for a starting place.

Install and Use the Recovery Console for Windows XP (Q307654)
Use recovery console to run chkdsk /r
then fixboot:
Easy to follow recovery console description when unable to start computer.

Thanks rvnguy, but I just got back out and tried a few things - now have more info. I booted into the recovery console and did a chkdsk /r, no change. I managed to disable the auto-restart and got the BSOD STOP:0x0000007B (0xF79F7528,0xCOOOOO34,0x00000000,0x00000000)
I'm looking at this mskb - but I am really struggling to know what to try now. I am tearing my hair out here (under massive time pressure).
Anyone?

Forgot to say. Don't know whether this is relevant but when trying to boot into safe mode it freezes on loading a347bus.sys ?

Fixed! Phew, after reading here - I found it was related to two files a347bus.sys & a347scsi.sys that halt the system after having SP2 installed on top of them, which I did when I did the repair reinstall (slipstreamed). The two files in question are a part of Alcohol 120%. I renamed these files in the recovery console to .old and the rest is history. Cheers

Happo,

WOW, really glad that you are back up & functioning.

Yes, the bit of info about a347bus.sys would have been a huge clue as you found out.

Thanks for posting your findings as these might be helpful to others.
