Perhaps more of a networking question but I need to monitor network bandwidth utilision on our LAN but need to install the software on Vista Ultimate SP1.
Does anyone know of such freeware/trialware that works with Vista.

Thanks for the replies. I need to monitor some embedded devices on our network with regards to upload and downloads speeds and usage.
Netmeter works fine but it only monitors local network card.

Does anyone know of any free utility that i can use. I realy need this asap. We have embedded devices so i cant install any software on them but i need to monitor their bandwidth usage. Devices are not SNMP enabled.

If you can't install software on the embedded devices (not a problem), then are you using managed switches? You could certainly monitor through that, either with or without SNMP (although SNMP would be easier).

How do i monitor bandwidth with switch. Most dont have SNMP.
We use TrendNet switches but dont see any builtin monitoring tools.

Only way to monitor on a switch is to either use SMTP or mirror a port, both need managed switches to do this i.e more expensive one.

The only other way is to put a device inline between source and destination.

The whole idea of a switch is to filter out unwanted traffic, i.e stuff stuff not destined for that device.

So if you stick a pc into a switch port, it will see only traffic destined for that pc, nothing else

Only the truly stupid believe they know everything.
