Nested Style or else? 1

Hi guys,

I am sure there has to be a better way to do this in InDesign than the eyedropper one by one of the Italics and other Styles. It is a couple of pages of the same list so.

I saw somewhere of Nested Styles but that they do not continue after a Hard Return.

How can i do this list without getting crazy?

Set up you nested style.

Highlight the text you wish to change, then apply the appropriate style.
i.e.
select text a,b,c apply style
select c1, c2 apply style

It really will not take that long to do... trust me

I am a bit confussed with Nested Style. I will try how to apply it.

I just checked your company. You are doing manuscripts to final design. The same thing i am doing now but i am going kind of slow. I bet you have tons of tricks to go faster.

Is there any tip when Importing texts from Word to Indesing? For example i the writer sends his Word Text in Arial and Times combined and you want to transformed in Helvetica and Garamond?

The PreserveFormatting Script works great if i only have one font, but i get confussed or cannot do it with to font families at the same time, like in this image...

There´s has to be a better way than selecting one by one with the eyedropper...

This is where Paragraph Styles and Character Styles come into play.

I would never attempt to do what you are doing with the eyedropper tool.

An easy way is to bring in the word file. select it all Command+A or control+A then either apply your "body parastyle" then go back and apply
Heading paragraph styles where appropriate, as you go though it.

Nested style work by attaching a charater style inside a paragraph style.

So, for you first example, I would have a charactor style for the Italics

I would then set up a para styles for:

Indent list 1
Indent List 2
Indent List 3

Then edit those styles and go down to Nested Styles and add you charator style like

Do the same for the other indent lists.

what do you mean by "body parastyle"? If i change the body text of the whole document to Adobe Garamond i will loose the bold and the italics, is that right?

No.
When you type in the appropriate font leave the window where it says the italic, bolds etc. blank
eg.
Type in Adobe Garamond make sure the box under it is clear then press return

No, Make and apply the paragraph style in InDesign.

It sound like you are not sure how to setup and use paragraph styles.

It would take me a while to type out all the info you need.

I would never ever use the eyedropper tool, as it will strip out the italics and bolds
