I'm a little new to the whole IP500 scheme and it looks like they have added alot of licensing that has confused me to this point. I started out on v3.0 with a 412,403, and 406. We're now down to one 412, but may need to expand later to another facility again.

We are looking to move from the 412 to the 500v2. At this time the conference chip on the 412 went bad as well so we figured we would look at upgrading.

Current System:

1 x IP Office 412 v. 5.0(20)
1 - T1 Pri
1 - 4 port trunk (1 in use for paging)
1 - VCM 30
1 - USB feature key
4 x DIG DCPx30
2 x DIG DCPx30v2
2 x ANALOG POTS 8 v2
1 x ANALOG POTS 16+

Server with VM Pro in Intuity Mode.

Licenses
Addititional VM Pro Ports 8
EBLF 255
Integrated Messaging 255
Soft Console Users 1
Voice Mail Pro 4 Ports 255

Phones:
4412D+ (Majority)
5410 (about 5)
5620 IP(about 10)

Our reseller was quoting an upgrade to 5.0R8 with the following

700476005 1 IP OFFICE 500 VERSION 2 CONTROL UNIT
700479710 1 IP OFFICE IP500 V2 SYSTEM SD CARD MU-LAW
215181 2 IP OFFICE LICENSE IP500 UNI PRI ADD 8 T1 CHANNELS LIC:CU
700213440 1 IP OFFICE CABLEISDN RJ45/RJ45 3M RED
700289770 1 IP OFFICE - POWER LEAD (EARTHED) US
700417389 1 IP OFFICE IP500 MEDIA CARD VOICE CODING MODULE 32
700417231 2 IP OFFICE IP500 EXT CARD PHONE 8
700417439 1 IP OFFICE 500 TRUNK CARD PRIMARY RATE UNIVERSAL SINGLE
700417405 1 IP OFFICE IP500 TRUNK CARD ANALOG 4 UNIVERSAL
700429202 1 IP OFFICE IP500 RACK MOUNTING KIT

I am a little confused as I thought we could reuse the VCM, PRI Card, and the 4 Port Anlg Trunk card using legacy card carriers.

I asked about the VCM and was told that the 32 port vcm was superior and gives you so much better call quality it wasn't worth it to use legacy. Not sure if that is true. They siad it comes with 12 Endpoint licenses. In the past I though the endpoint license came with the avaya phone. Did this change too?

The licensing is confusing. I have seen discussions about the essential license to use vmpro, but didn't see it in the quote. I am confused about the Add 8 t1 channels as we currently have 23.

The other thing that confused me was that we have the DCP30's just about maxxed out, but see discussions that they only support 17 or 27 4412D+ phones depending on revision of the module. Did this change in a later release?

I have a call into our rep, but wanted to see what your thoughts were.

Thanks,

Lee

You can only have 2 x legacy card carriers per system so even if you did re-use them you'd have to pick which ones. Having new can't hurt though and won't cost a lot more.

The VCM 32 will be superior to the old VCM30 as it will include the new echo cancellation. The 12 IP endpoint licenses are irrelevant to you as you don't appear to use any IP phones.

VMPro and all other licenses will be moves to the new SD card so no need to worry about these.

The new PRI cards come with 8 channels licensed. You need to license the rest. 8 x 2 =16 so this will make all the channels live. Again nothing to worry about here.

Can't help on the 4412+ phones but I'm sure someone here will know the answer.

Your post makes it sound like you don't trust your BP? Any reason for this?

ACSS (SME)

One of these days everything will work as it should, and then we'll all be out of a job!

In the past 3 years I have been through 4 different reps. The current one we have has never seen an IP412 and upon arriving told me that I needed to replace all the phones. She then came back and told me they would work. Afterwords told me they would only work on legacy modules and not on the main unit. As long as they work on the module I have no issue, but obviously she doesn't have the knowledge and is discussing it with someone. I'm was just looking for any "gotcha's" as I have had many from them before.

Plus I follow these forums and have seen the quality of knowledge of this group [bigsmile].

I appreciate your time and comments. It is always nice to have the help of others.

I would keep the PRI cards as legacy, as they are SUPPOSED to come with all the licensing (however, have read of instance they did not for some reason). With the new PRI-U cards, they only come with 8 channels, and you have to license the rest, hence the reason for the +8 licenses.

The VCM32 is superior to the VCM30. The 32 will give you 12 IP phone licenses out of the box (and you only have 10x 5620 IP phones). IP endpoints are now licensed.

DS30V2 (PCS5+) will only support a max of 27 4412 or 4424 phones. 16 if on earlier versions of the ds mod.

Your integrated messaging licenses is no longer supported, its now UMS if you want to keep its "features". Neither is eblf if im not mistaken.

You also have 9 expansion modules. The base 500 only supports 8 unless you get the 4 port expansion card.

I should note, however, you could just put in a combo card, which would give you 10x VCM channels, 6 digital ports, 2 analog, and 4atm all in one card. That would take care of your digital phones, your paging, and VCM all in one. No ip licenses though...but those would get configured by your BP :x

Thanks for all of the suggestions. It is a great help. We were looking at moving towards IP in the future so I think it would be a good option to go ahead and move with the new vcm32.

I will talk to our rep about the T1 licensing and see what they say.

Quick question on the configs. One of the reasons we are looking to move towards IP is to prevent have to swap physical lines when users move. Currently we have found that if we move the extensions in the config and merge it doesn't take effect sometimes until we reboot. Because of this we typically do a physical move. Can you move the extensions and merge in R8 or does it still require a reboot?

You can do it with a merge, but you then need to log the extns off before it takes effect :)

BTW, it's always best to physically move extns anyway, it keeps the port numbering in place and makes it more predictable when troubleshooting :)

I will disagree with AAC on the reusing the Legacy PRI cards.

If you do that you will not be able to take advantage of a huge FREE part of R8, FREE MOBILITY for all users.

Mobile twinning will only work on IP5xx t1/PRI cards. While you may not think that you want r need mobility now, it would seem silly not to spend the money now, rather than pulling the systems down, redoing the trunk cards and programming at a later date.

Just my opinion.

just because its free, does not mean its "good". I find many people don't care for it. But, point taken.

People have found that mobility does work on the legacy cards, I never tried but I think Tom Mills did and it works fine......if I remember correctly :)

interesting...

It will give you issues when you want to use the callback feature or when you want to use FNE codes etc.
I think the new One-X Mobile preferred will work though.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!
