I just did a lot of reprogramming at a customer's site after we relocated 75% of his sets. Then I had to switch NA of companion handsets, and It seem I managed to goof up and both his C3060 don't seems to be registered anymore.

In the Norstar installation book, I can see how to register C3050 and C3020 models but nothing about the C3060.

Right now if I press Dial or start to punch in numbers, the "in use" indicator lits for 2 seconds then turns off and I loose what I was dialing. Registration is ON in the config.

Any information would be VERY appreciated !

Great !!!!
I could activate the little animals again.

Now, there is one more question !

One of the wireless set has to be configured so the external ringer is activated when this set is paged.
That simply doesn't work.

I had to hook a useless 7208, activate the external ringer on that NA, and put that NA in the "answer NA" of the wireless set configuration.

I feel a bit dumb since I told my customer I didn't see why the previous installer had a 7208 set dedicated to that !

I will presume Answer NA= Answer DN?

Programming Aux Ring is something I have never tried to do with a companion but very strange why it would not work.

If nobody has an answer to that question you could take an unused port an put an answer DN key of the companion to the unused port and get rid of the 7208 and you look golden? lol

Answer DN, you're right. NA is the french equivalent (I usually do all the programming in english, but those stupid manuals are often in [bad] french so I get mixed up a bit.)

If I get the 7208 off will others will be still able to ring it ?

I have yet to try it but it's worth a shot.

Or

Give the companion a new DN
Give the unused port the old DN of the companion
Add the answer DN key of the ringer DN to the companion DN
and nobody will know the difference but if vmail is in use here change the mailbox to associate with the companions new DN.
I did this setup once but it was an ATA in place of the companion as the ATA did not permit the answer DN key so I fooled it by reversing as above.

Luc,
The manuals are not that great in English either.

Curly: Could you expand on your last post please?

Hi Arr,

Thank's for joining in. I just looked at your FAQ, very good information in there. If I read correctly, Nortel don't make cordless anymore ?

Sure Arr,
How about this...I have this 7208(ext201) in a noisy enviroment so I thought why not put an ATA(ext202) with a Loud Ringer and assign an answer DN key to the ATA of the 7208 so that when 7208 rings so does the ATA with ringer.
Well we know that wont work because you cannot assign an answer DN to an ATA so I reverse the DNs of the 7208 and the ATA, now ATA is ext 201 and 7208 is ext 202, now I put an answer DN key on the 7208 of the ATA....I dont have to give out my new ext # of 202 because I have an answer DN of 202 on my new 201 set.

This scenario is similar but have this unused port have an answer DN key of the companion with aux ring set to yes....Idealy the call needs a place to ring and I am hoping the Aux port will do the job on it's own.

I am now confusing myself.

Why the hell does the bloody ringer not work off the companion anyway? bunch of bullocks lol.

Mont the T7406 cordless has been halted but the companions are still in production even though Nortel threatend to discontinue them.

Luc,
I've just had news that the T7406 is shipping again.
Iffy product.
Curly,
The Companion has made it to the retired list at ITAS.
I know we've been chirping at this one for a while?? But there it is on the site - dead. I wish Nortel would just come out with an updated version... ARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!

Did you know that Algo ( another Canadian company makes an external ringer that connects directly into the headset jack under each phone? To my best understanding that is how the aux ringer works for sets and in no other way. Your use of an ATA I see now but it would seem to me more efficient to use the Algo Duet Plus ringer/pager for the purpose... also cheaper than an ATA2.
Having an answer key on the 7208 showing for the companion.
Bad part is one 7208, one ringer.
Algo also makes a thing called an Aux Box 4100. Coupled with a Duet Plus it will provide ringing from the telephone station wiring. I was wondering if this would work for companion. Trouble really is that companion doesn't work exactly like the sets. Each base station uses one bearer channel for each hand held and combines the D channel for both. Vewy twicky stuff. So if the Aux box did work, it would sound off for both hand helds. or just one ... but which one?

Luc,
I think your answer lies somewhere between our posts.

Cheers

Yes we use the Algo all the time and also with the headset jack(mostly shippers offices) however it states in the manual the ringer must be within 15 feet of the set,I found out the hard way once after setting one up about 20-25 feet away and the damn thing would only chirp.
This ATA setup was because the ringer need to to be a far distance from the set and the Aux port was in use by another item.
Algo does make some pretty neat stuff and I never new about that 4100 which is preety cool ..thanks Arr.

Curly,
Watch out for the Algo door phones. They work but not quite as advertised. There are real issues surrounding the disconnect period/method.
