anything that can supply sound to a 600 ohm imput.. you can't use any music that has copywrite issues, ie, your favorite station or cd.. that's why most moh is canned stuff. all you need on the swtich side is a single vacant analog trunk port

A single analog trunk port is typically on an NT8D14 universal trunk card. If you don't have that card in your opt. 11 , You will need to get one and install it.
Paging, music, CO trunk and DID trunks are typically installed on the universal trunk card.
You'll need to build a route for the music on hold, and build the trunk for MOH as well.

If you have paging, you probably have it installed on a universal trunk card.
Go to load 20 and print your trunks if you don't know what slot the card is in.
If its on a universal trunk card, the system will show you the TN associated with the paging trunk.
A universal trunk card only has eight ports, then print the card by TN and see if you have any TNs available.
If you have a TN available, you can then program music on hold, route and trunk. You will still need a music source.
We use interalia products. They come with a licence for the music provided with the music on hold device. You can also have custom music on hold sent to you from the Interalia company.

Look at ten Demarc and see if anything is punched down on that TN, where does it go?

Typo ten should have been (the). If nothing on 7 0 0 7 then punch down a music source on it.

I'm getting somewhere I think...but a couple more questions.....and thank you in advance.
I'm confused on the outputs, for instance, if I want to hook up a cd player...how would I wire that to the pbx? I guess once I figure that out, then I'll worry about how to get it to actually work with it.

on mine There is a jack in front and I plug it in and the other end I cut off the plug and punch down the 2 wires.
about the same, i cut the headphones off and connect that 24 gauge to a screw term... might need a transformer to match impedance or not.. depends on a lot of varables.. best to do a lttle testing.. when you put on the route, at the targ prompt x1.. so you can dial the acod and test..

Use the output on the back of the CD player, the RCA jacks you would use if connecting it to a stereo at home. You'll have to choose either the left or the right channel. Doesn't really matter.
Plug one end of a cable into the CD player, cut the RCA plug off the other end and punch it down at your TN. Might need to make a longer cable, or solder an RCA plug to some telephone wire.
We connected a CD player in this fashion to the PBX and the volume and everything was just fine...even over several thousand feet of cable. CD and PBX were in two different buildings.
Where I was at the time, nobody worried about licensing. We played any CDs we wanted within reason. Mostly Top 40 stuff from the 80s (Huey Lewis, Billy Joel, Chicago) and Christmas stuff.
Where I'm at now, there were complaints about using unlicensed music from the public, even though they really didn't know if it was licensed or not. We play canned stuff, but you can go to the ASCAP website to look into the proper type of licensing for your organization. It's a flat annual fee typically for MOH.

some fool down in dallas sued about 30 ceo's nationwide over the lic issue, most of them was rebroadcasting a radio feed that they had ads on... the settlements was in the 7 figure range, all of a sudden we had a few 1000 request for canned music interfaces.. 99 percent chance no one would ever notice, a 99 percent chance that if your boss gets sued, you need a new job...jmo
