Here is my problem.

I want to setup a Help Desk mailbox but I want to have more than one user accessing this mailbox. I know I can setup a distribution list but that will just send any emails to all the users. I want to have only one email box so everyone can tell if an email has been answered or not.

Under Exchange 5.5, I could setup a group that could access the mailbox. The individuals in the group just had to click on File - Open - Other User's folder to access the mailbox.

Can I do the same with Exchange 2003? If so, how? I have looked in Microsoft but with their search engine, I will still be looking when they come out with Exchange 2008.

Thanks

In Active Directory Users and Computers you can right click on a mail enabled object (e.g. user) and goto its properties page. Under the exchange Advanced Tab you have a button called 'mailbox rights'. In here you can give another account rights to the mailbox.

Within outlook you can then add the mailbox. In Outlook 2003: right click on your mailbox (top left corner) and choose properties for mailbox. Click on the advanced button then click on the adbanced tab and add the mailbox.

Note to add the From button to a message, compose a new message and click on the 'options' drop down menu (between the buttons for add new rule and the message format html). You might find however that with multiple people doing this that the sent item will appear under individual users mailboxes and not your general helpdesk mailbox.

Forgot to mention,

If you cant see the Exchange Advanced Tab on a users property sheet in ADUC then click on view and select 'advanced view'. This will add the hidden tabs in.

In a similar way to llevon suggests you could also create a completely separate Outlook profile with all helpdesk staff having access to the helpdesk mailbox. However these users would not be able to simultaneously have the helpdesk mailbox and their own mailbox open at the same time.

Another option is to create an Exchange Public Folder which receives messages addressed to the helpdesk e-mail address.
