I am working on a NT 4.0 system and at some point the mouse just stopped working. Im not sure what caused the problem, but the pointer does not show up on the screen.

In the event viewer there is a message saying it could not load mouclass. I tried replacing the mouclass.sys file and the other mouse drivers from an identical workstation but that did nothing.

I have also detached the mouse and it works fine on other systems, so that is not the problem.

We are running Service Pack 5, and only service pack 5 (we cannot upgrade due to business configuration standards). I tried reinstalling the service pack a few times, but again, that did nothing.

When I try starting the Mouse service in Control Panel/Devices, it gives me an error that it cannot find the specified file.

Can anyone help me out on what I can to do fix this problem. Thanks.

Rather than copying files from another computer to this one, do you have any mouse software that you can actually install e.g. Microsoft Intellipoint?..

If so, it might be worth giving this a try. If you don't have it, I'm sure you can download it from Microsoft's site, or .

Rgds

I tried installing the Intellipoint software and drivers onto the system but that did absolutely nothing.

I just connected a serial mouse to the PC and it works fine. This is only a temporary solution though as we have to be able to use the PS/2 mouse. I am completely out of ideas on what to try besides just blowing the system away and reinstalling windows, which is our last option.

It could be a hardware fault on this particular PC whereby there may be a loose or dodgy connection on the PS2 port? Maybe if a rebuild does not resolve the issue, you have to fault the PC out? -----------------------------------------------------
