Troubleshooting IP Console Problems
To troubleshoot 5550 IP Console Problems
1. Go through Table 47 below.
2. If you cannot solve the problem using Table 47, go through the steps in “Generic Troubleshooting Steps” on page 144.
3. If you still can’t find the problem, call Mitel Networks Technical Support (see “Before You Contact Technical Support” on page 142).
Note: To rule out DHCP problems, and isolate network-related issues, we recommend that you program the IP Phone with a static IP Address (see TSB # 58004933).
Table 47. Troubleshoot IP Console Problems
Symptoms
IP console fails to register (red LED is lit on TKB).
Probable cause
TKB (keyboard) does not have a reserved IP address. OR TKB does not have the right IP addres.OR TKB is not communicating to the right Controller.
Corrective Action
1. Check DHCP lease to confirm if an expected IP address is assigned to TKB.
2. If not assigned properly, ensure that you enter the MAC address of TKB properly in the Multiline Set Assignment form in ESM.
3. Recyle the power of TKB to ensure that TKB is reloaded properly
Symptoms
IP console fails to register (red LED is lit on TKB).
Probable cause
Console PC does not have the proper IP address.
Corrective Action
If IP address of PC is on different subnet than TKB, make sure that the router between these two subnets is functional.
Symptom
IP console fails to register (red LED is lit on TKB).
Probable Cause
PC NIC has 802.1Q enabled on Data side while L2 switch is not configured to accept tagged frame on Native VLAN.
Corrective Action
Disable 802.1Q on PC NIC
Note: Only use 802.1Q on PC if PC and TKB are on the same vlan (e.g 2) which L2 switch accepts tagged frame on the specified VLAN.
Symptom
IP Console fails to launch
Probable cause
IP Console has been registered and IP console is reinstalled.
Corrective Action
Delete the MAC address from IP console form and then re-register using the IP Console Configuration Wizard (Start/MN5550 IP console/Tools).
Note: Do not re-run the IP Console software installation unless you need to (new installation, repair corrupted software, etc.). You should always use the Configuration Wizard to register to a different Controller.
