On our campus we have two buildings connected together with a Definity G3 si and one EPN. I would like to connect three more buildings (on campus) to the G3 over IP(or privately own fiber). I was told that we would have to trash the G3 and upgrade to a S8500 with G650's at each building. The G3si has a limit of 2 EPN's. Is that true? Is there another way to upgrade the exsisting G3 PBX to support IP with more end points? Is there a way to just enable IP in the G3 cabinet and add the IPSI card and G650's without over hauling the G3??
Any help or input would be great!!!

What release is the si? How many users are at each of the remote buildings?

A G3si does support a maximum of (2) EPNs. Beginning in V9 IP telephony became really functional. Depending on the number of users in each building that may be a possibility.

Seems a bit odd that you can't use your existing SCC/MCC cabinets with a S8500.
As a matter of fact, I'm looking through the S8500 docs right now. You can use existing MCC/SCC cabinets. You do have to change out the carrier(s) that are being used as processor carriers and put IPSI2 boards in them. S8500 can only be on Communication Manager 2.0, which now is 2.0.1 for all aspects.
Let me research this a bit more tomorrow at work and I'll get back to this thread.
By the way, who fed you this load of crap? Was it a Business Partner or an Avaya Account Exec?

You have an existing installation so you should still be able to buy the SCC carriers.. As far as I know you can't buy them for greenfield opportunities..

We have a G3si release 10.
At the other buildings we could have up to or more then 100 phones that could be either IP/Digital or Analogs. I like the flexibility of either IP phones or "TN" base phones.
Thanks,
