Hello everyone, i have a question for a client. On a Citrix server, one with a PNagent and the other with a thinclient, there are two people with the same problem with MS Word. On their menu bar, there should be the option table, but it isn't there. We right clicked the menu bar and went to customize, and from there, we reset the menu bar and the Tables option was there in the menu bar as it should be. However, when the users log off, the Tables option goes away from the menu bar. The reset idea was just a temporary fix and we were wondering how to make it so the table option is always there when they log on and off. Also, if i could, i would like to know why this is happening and how to fix it for good. Any help would be appreciated.

Spitaro,

Welcome to Tek-Tips.

Let me say up front that I'm not very proficient on the technical side of things. I am posting here (and it may be completely useless) because your problem reminded me of a similar situation I faced some years ago.

My networked group had a newly installed version of MS Office and everytime someone customized something in Access it was returned to the default settings the next day.

It turned out that the login script was copying "msacc00.ini" (something like that, but definitely ".ini") from the network and overwriting the same file on the local drive. Once we deleted the part of the login, we kept our custom settings. Perhaps there is something involving a .ini file that is effecting your Word setup.

If this actually helps, I'll be amazed. But I had to post just in case...

Best of Luck!
Tim

Sounds like you need to change the normal.dot template file.

This file is used by Word to capture all standardised settings.

I'd suggest deleting the current normal.dot and allowing Word to rebuild it next time it is launched. If you don't want to delete it (maybe you have changes in there you want to keep), I'd suggest renaming it to normal.old and then starting Word.

Cheers,
Dave

Thanx for the replies, we did find out what the problem was after trying to change the normal.dot file. There was a hung up session that needed to be booted. Thanks again for the help.

It is either normal.dot, OR you have another global template that may interfer. OR a COM addin.

1. As suggested, delete normal.dot. If you have any AutoText entries or macros, rename normal.dot, rather than delete. You can copy the AutoText or macros later.

2. Check Templates and Addins (under Tools) and see if there are any globals loaded. If so, unload them. There are a number of third party software that can cause problems - Adobe PDFMaker is one.

3. Check for any COM addins. These can be seen also under Tools. Note however, that COM addins as a menu choice is NOT listed. If you need to, add COM addins to the Tools menu choices - see Help. Then check.
