We have one deployed for the minibar operations. They go through the building taking inventory and charging items from guest rooms into Micros. They work 8 hour shifts and the battery maintains power throughout the day. When the staff member is not working on it, the unit goes to sleep. Only draw back is if they forget to charge it, there is no spare battery.
The rdp client is set to persistent connection so it doesn't drop the RDP session. Even when they roam out of range(Rarely), the client gives the appearance that its still working. We use the free (Ad supported) pocketcloud app from wise. I purchased the Pro version but I was unable to lock the screen rotation.
In regards to the mag reader, the Apple store has a model they use and were trying to sell us. I'm waiting for a response from them if the reader just passes the track 2 data in plain text like Micros mag readers or is the data manipulated.
