My guess is that the script you're trying to run just enables classic security. Can you post a link to the thread you're referring to?
That can be helpful if you've lost all the passwords for the configurator, but whether or not you can run live that way depends on the version of RES that you have. As of version 4.3 POS Operations won't start if you have classic security enabled; you'll get an error with the header "PCI Security Settings Are NOT In Place" and a list of possible violations. Part of the requirements for getting the software certified as PCI compliant was that it couldn't offer the option of overriding password security.
