Came in to a Windows license issue on a Dell box running KDS yesterday. The only solution to the error was to reinstall Windows XP Pro. I have put CAL on and get no errors installing the KDS software through CAL but for some reason I can't get the KDS display to start. We are version 4.7. Have done this 100's of times with no issue but haven't had to install one for a few years and think I might be missing something. Have tried XP Pro service pack 2 and 3.....thought it might be a service pack issue. Now I am thinking it might be a netframework issue....what version should it be at to run KDS? Any other thoughts?
Thanks
PS....I can set RUN KDS OPS to True in the registry but it keeps reverting to False

So the box needed NetFramework version 1.1 installed on it.
Now working as intended

Interesting to know it even let you install it without the .net framework. Good to know. The micros installer usually runs pre-req checks and warns you when something is missing, but I guess not for when you are using something other than a kds controller for a kds unit.

That is weird. I thought the Micros installer unzips and runs a few msi files in the background. You'd think that Windows would have caught that.
