Hello. I'm running Micros 3700 and I have 3 WS4s and 1 WS4lx. Since the new year, the 3 WS4s are all saying the time is an hour ahead of what it actually is. The WS4lx is reporting the correct time. I've tried running Reconfigure CAL on the affected terminals to no affect. I've manually changed the time, and DST settings, but it reverts back after ~5 minutes. From googling, I feel like I need to update the CAL client on the WS4s, but I can't find any information on how exactly to do that. Any help or insight would be appreciated. Thanks a lot

Its a self-extracting zip. It has two things in it, the CAL update and the platform software. It is RC 15.2, so if you already have that, then that isn't your problem.

To install it, just drop it on a flash drive (I've never been able to get my workstation fours to read anything except a FAT32 formatted flash drive.. I think...), and then run the software.

Thanks for your reply Moregelen. I downloaded that and moved it to a thumb drive, put it in one of the terminals and tried to run it, but it gives me an error "Cannot find 'ws4_platform_RC_15.2' (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all the required libraries are available". Any idea what that could mean? Thanks again

FYI, you have to run the main .exe on your computer first. Tt is a self extracting zip; you can't run it on the workstation itself. Is that what you were trying?

Thanks again for your help Moregelen. Indeed I was trying to extract it on the POS. I'm running the platform updater now (the POS was on 14.9) but it seems hung up on transferring "/cf/nk.bin". It's been sitting there for well over half an hour. Any idea if that's normal? I don't want to turn it off or anything and risk ruining the terminal. Thanks a lot

I turned off the POS, as it had been sitting there for well over an hour. Turned back on, did the same thing as before except I copied the files to the local drive before running them. This seemed to work as it ran through it's installation stuff then rebooted. I had to reenter the static ip and such, but now RES won't start. I try to start it (it doesn't load on boot, so I went to \CF\micros\bin\appstart) and it gets to "initializing database" then pops up with "initialization encryption failed". No idea where to go from here. Thanks for any help you can provide

That should read, "Encryption Initialization Failed". My fault

I guess I had the IP wrong. Now it gets passed the previous step, but errors out with "no communications with database server. Enter standalone mode?". It'll work in standalone mode, but I can't figure out why there's no database communications. On the plus side, the time seems to be working correctly. Thanks

Check your MDS Host file and make sure it is pointing to the correct server.

The ip and everything looks correct, and it looks identical to the other terminals that are working correctly.

We had this issue once with all your symptoms....the hour time difference, upgraded the cal and platform software which would have issues loading, and then still had the hour time issue. We found the platform update would never fully install as they were old workstation 4's and the compact flash was to small. Upgraded the compact flash with bigger ones then cold do the platform update with no issues. That resolved the time issue. So you may want to check the compact flash size.

Thanks Wildbar for the input. The compact flash size is 125MB. Do you happen to remember the requirement?

I believe we are at 512mb now If i recall correct we were at the 128 it sounds like you were at when we had the issues. Do you get workstation freezes as well now and then? What version of 3700 are you at?

I think we're at 4.1 hf3. I kind of inherited this system and issue, so I apologize if I'm not giving the right info. I had one workstation freeze right after the platform update, but not since then. Is the flash memory specialized at all, or does any compact flash card work? Thanks very much for your help.

I don't believe the flash is specialized....pretty sure we just bought off the shelf cards for $30 or so. I have pulled all my case notes from Micros but they never mention the compact flash size needed. Maybe one of the smarter Micros guys on the site can give you the minimum size required before you go spending any $$ And I don't know if this solution will work for you.....it did for us. We were upgrading to version 4.7 at the time

I'm running a site with 5 ws 4 system with only 128 MB flash cards on RES 5.0; the flash card doesn't need to be any bigger. They originally shipped with.. 32? MB, and 128 is the upgraded size.

Have you checked to make sure there aren't any local time setting issues? Disable the 'Automatically synchronize with time.windows.com' setting? Upgrading the platform has always fixed this for me, so just guessing at this point...

I downloaded the files MikeRose posted at the bottom of this thread. Ran the ClientOSUpdate, which installed 15.2 on all the workstations and everything works just fine now. Thanks everyone for the help
