Hi !

I've got kind of a problem with emails just disappearing.

I didn't have message tracking on Exchange 2000 enabled, this will make it even more difficult.

Is there any way to find out where / when / if messages have been sent at all ? I particulary need to find out if messages sent from an mail address (internal and external) with an i.e. Word / Excel attachment have been sent.

Now even worse, I've been told this message wasn't sent just yesterday - instead about 2 month ago =/ ..

The only idea I have is to contact the ISP and get them to maybe restore their logfiles as we use an SMTP-Relay from our SDSL provider.

Is there maybe a tool ? Or Logs I didn't see/find (btw, smtp logging was disabled as well - I enabled this and message tracking but that will only solve my problems in future) ?

Any other ideas / tools / suggestions are very welcome and appreciated.

Thanks!
Alex

You're only shot will be your ISP since you had no logging going on at all.

I'm Certifiable, not certified.
It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.

Is this an Exchange cluster? Where is your smtp directory? I've seen this on clusters when the smtp directory has not been moved to a shared disk resource. Each time you fail over, you strand messages until you fail back; sometimes weeks or months later.

Hi !

Thanks for your answers!

@xmsre: No it's a "normal" Exchange - no clustering at all.

@lander215: That was my best guess but just needed that confirmed before I bother the ISP to recover those logfiles.

Thanks a lot!
