Hello,

I have several users all using different versions of Windows and Office. Everyone is running from a POP dialup, with local PST files for their e-mails, calendars, etc.

When someone on an Office XP machine sends a meeting request from Outlook to an Office 2000 user, the message arrives as garbage, as if the message has been un-encoded.

Office XP to Office XP is fine, the message arrives fine. Likewise, Office 2000 to Office XP is also fine.

The problem only occurs when the meeting request recipient is running Office 2000.

Does anyone have any ideas!? Hope so!
Thanks, T

Hi,

This is because Outlook 2000 cannot interpret the iCal format which Outlook 2002 sends meeting requests in. More info here :-
As stated in the article, to get this to work when you send from Outlook 2002 to Outlook 2000, do not use the "meeting reminder" when sending the appointment as this is what causes Outlook 2000 to mis-interpret the request.

Microsoft have a hotfix to enable Outlook 2000 to read .ICS files (which are iCalendar files) but I do not think that this resolves the issue so best to use the workaround. If you want to try the hotfix you can get it here :-
Hope this helps.

J.

That's great...
Many thanks for your help.
I will let everyone know to turn off the reminders!
Cheers, T
