I'm a little confused about the maximum volume size for Windows Server 2003. I'm in the planning phase for our disk based backup solution. The backup device will be a 10TB SATA array. I'd like to carve out a 3.5TB partition for each of 3 servers as targets (Media Agents). Can I present a 3.5TB partition to Windows, or do I need to cut that in half, present it in 2 partitions and create a dynamic spanned volume? I know I can go up to 256TB volume sized under Windows 2003, but I'm not sure if that's the actual partition size, or the dynamic volume size.

Thanks.

That would be the dynamic volume size. Physical disks presented to Windows must to 2TB or smaller. You can span multible 2TB drives together to get a larger single drive.

That's what I had presumed. I appreciate the response.
