I know that the limit of extensions is 389 (whether IP or Digital or combination thereof) however is there a limit for Users? Assuming I have 250 extensions (base extensions IP/Digital within the system) could I have 400 users? I have a project wherein I would like to roll out 250 IP phones and don't know the locations of each user. If I setup the system so that I register the IP phones as extensions 5100 - 5350 and have them setup as users with names EXT5100 - EXT5350 and then create another 250 users with legitimate names (Such as John Done, Jane Done, etc...)and teach the users how to "login" this would allow us to deploy the phones with base user's without having to know where the phone needs to be installed. This would also allow us to use the phone even though a user is not logged in as each of the phones would still have a default user account of EXT5100-EXT5350. Lastly, this would make administration easier as if users need to move around they would not need to move their phone (they would all Hot Desk). If we make the base extension number be the same as the user ext and a user moves - rebooting the system would default the extension of that user and this would force them to get into the habit of logging into there phone. Just a thought but this would all hinge on the limit of actual users (phantom)

There is no limit on users AFAIK.
But you want to hope Avaya aren't serious about some things in R10 if you plan on doing this going forward though, they haven't considered shift working/hotdesking is all I'll say ;-)

I may end up contacting Presales Tech Support as I haven't found anything that specifically identifies how many actual users you can have. I will review R10 information as well. Would hate to see something broken that isn't broken now!

adc110,
You know what will happen if you have to reboot the IPO for config change? Yes, everyone is logged out. I'm not sure if this is what you want.

Absolutely! Thanks for the update Albus2. This is definitely what I want. I realize that it is a downside of not tying a physical extension number to a user extension number however if I get users adjusted to logging in. From an IT perspective it makes it easier when users have to move around and not have to take phones with them or have to re-program the phones. In addition I need the phones to have a dial paging feature wherein I can page for emergencies and if I reboot the system and not have an actual user logged in then the page feature would not work so I can another bang for my buck in that there will always be user logged in. Just need to get people prepared for having to login!

To be sure to be ready if the system size could increase in the future I would think about purchasing server edition.

I see your point, and I have a customer working this way. No one, not even the main phone is fix. The reason is that they use to change office and desk on a weekly basis. They just work on different desk every week. This is for everyone, from receptionist to the boss.

For all other customers, there is the Mute-CRAFT procedure to login at another extension. I mean, there is no need to move the phone. A user can 'permanently' move his extension/user with this. No real problem.

Just do not mix this. As you said, use comletely different number ranges for the extension and users. Otherways, there may be situations where someones phone restarts just because the 'user' logs in at afree station, causing his extension to move. However at this extension there was anouther user logged on. (not easy to discribe, but I guess you know what I mean)

What they are saying in the specs is that an IP500 can support 384 users and up to 384 extensions so Avayas support might not like it if you ever happens to call them.

@Intrigrant

Your config has an error:
No more than 1500 users are allowed on a Non-Select IP Office System.

Daddy! Geh UP! APPLES!

I know but Manager does allow creating more then the max 383 phones/users on a IP500.
In the past it stopped at the max allowed.

I clicked on the star but nothing happened. I'm confused.

Janni 78 - Does it actually say 389 users? I saw that it said 389 extensions. On another note where does it say how many users can be part of a hunt group? Difficult information to find but I will post once I get it from the horses mouth!

User capacity and scalability improvements: Select and non-select systems now support a
maximum of 3000 users (server model capacity limitations apply). All 3000 users can be on a single
server and non-Select systems can support up to 2000 users with 1500 user on a single server
depending on the server model deployed.
