Hi,

We recently installed a customer in a factory enviroment that has 30 analog wall phones around the plant.

Needless to say the original wall phones either do not ring at all or barely ring loud enough to hear 5 feet sawy in a quite enviroment.

We all know the feeble specs on the ring voltage on IP Office ports. Good enough for electronic ringers but not enough for internal bells. Some phone ring "louder" that others depending on their age.

Analog Phone Ports
RJ45 sockets:
CLI Schemes: DTMFA, DTMFC, DTMFD, FSK and UK20.
REN: 2. (External Bell via POT port: REN = 1)
Off Hook Current: 25mA.

Ring Voltage: 40V (nominal) RMS.

So to cut to the chase....has anyone found a workable solution for many phones.
I tried an analog phone with an electronic ringer. Not loud enough for the enviroment.

Maybe an inline ringer like a Wheelock UTI...but could the IP Office port even cough up enough power to drive the thing...plus $130 a pop. times 25 just to get analog phones to ring GRRRRR.

Obviously a powered ringer would work. Difficult to get a customer to put AC drops in to get phones to ring LOL

I can't be the only one burned by this ?

That's why/how we avoid getting in this situation..... you've already covered your options :)

Most analog phones with electronic ringers are louder than classic mechanical bell variety. We generally use Vodavi/Vertical 2801 - provides an obnoxiously shrill ring. If you need louder, than AC powered external ringers are your best bet.

Thanks Guys

mflorrence: "Vodavi/Vertical 2801" Sounds like a winner. Gonna buy on and test it out
socalsteve: Thanks for the "Wheelock" tip. I can fix a different customer need with that. Doesn't work for my 30 phone app
jamie77: "Bedlam tonecaller" Thought you were pulling my leg with the name. Looked it up and it would be a good fit except it seems only available in the UK (I'm in US)
amriddle01: You have best Advice..Don't get in this predicament in the first place.

@bobertb - FYI - the Vertical 2801-00 (basic phone in black) requires a separate wall kit for wall mounting. The part number is 2868-00 for black. Thewall kit is inexpensive - like $2.00
