Hi all,

I have a Dell optiplex g1 computer. it has been working fine, until I lost the colors on my computer. I find that I only have 2 and 16 colors. What happened to the 256 colors that I had?
I am using Windows 98 for my OS. I tried to reload Win 98 but that did nothing at all. I also tried to load a win98 driver from an ATI software I have, and all I get is an error about converting to an avg.

Any help would be apprectiated.

Thanks,

Jediwarrior

It's me again, Jediwarrior with an upgrade to my lost colors.
The video card after looking at it is attached permanently to the mother-board. How would I find a driver for this?
Thanks again,

Jediwarrior

Go here:

Download/unzip Aida32 and run setup. Then go to Display/GPU and see what is installed on your system. Use the urls at the bottom of the window to connect to your drivers' download page. If this fails, go to the Dell website and enter your system/SN or whatever is required and then search for your drivers. Download and prepare to update. Turn off any firewalls/anti-virus/spyware apps and update your driver, restart computer.

Go to the dell site, tell it what your service tag is, and download the drivers that match the board. Put them in folders that identify what they are, then execute them.
If you extract them to the same place you will know where to find them when you update the drivers.

Guys, your posts were extremely helpful. I actually put both your ideas together and I have all my colors back. I did have to go to Dell.com and find the driver I needed, using the service tag.
I wouldn't have figures it out without your knowledge. Thanks.

I had to give you both a star for this.

Jediwarrior:

Thanks, I appreciate that. #1 Rule of Thumb: Alaways check the computer manufacturers' website first (if proprietary such as HP/Compaq, Dell, Gateway, etc..Then proceed accordingly and to the chipmaker website (ATI, Nvidia, Rockwell/Conexant, etc.) if nothing is gained and try a driver from their listings.

A really useful website for drivers is:

Just select which category you need and go (or you can just type: printer-drivers, modem-drivers, etc. dot com and the appropriate page will open up.).

That is a good web site, looks like they have just about everything you may need.
I book marked that page for future reference.

Thanks again,
